The week that was...

So I have managed to post a piece of jewellery for evey day of the week. In the mean time I have gone on holidays to FNQ and organised my Mother's 60th Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Needless to say I am proud of my efforts. So an update is now in order...

Tribal Tuesday

Heavy, deep pounding drums, rythymic jolting, guttural tones, scary shadows and earthly tones.
The tribal range allows you to go a little wild
At the basis of the range is Nature, natural products, natural colours, wood, clay, seeds, leather. Although the pieces are large and outrageous, it does allow you to feel bold, feel strong and capable of beating a worthy foe in the jungle that is your life. The masks can be considered as talismans, shields, protectors, decorative or simply the coolest thing you’ve ever put around your neck. The great thing about the clay is, it is re-mouldable – if you don’t like it, you can soak it in water and you're back to square one - a lump of clay. With the Elms Creative range I believe that you are wearing a piece of art, when it comes to clay products you are also wearing a bit of my... fingerprints. They feature throughout all, showing they were handcrafted and each an individual.
The Happy Chappy.
When I was moulding this guy, I was only channeling good thoughts. I love his little smile, every-time I wear this little guy I always have someone comment on him. To be worn to put good vibes out into the world!!
The Aztec Calendar -
I love South America and hope to travel there one day in the not too distant future. I love how raw and ritualistic the art and people of the Aztecs were.
Jean-Michel Basquiat (December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) - A brilliant painter who began his work in Graffiti under the tag SAMO. Came to the artworld;s eye in the 80's. However the excesses of the 80's were too much for him and he died of an overdose. Thankfully he left many works for us to admire and adore.
The billiant Julie Taymor, sculpting "Scar's" headpiece for The Lion King. Julieis one of my idols. To create art and works that are at her calibre is a true dream.

As Elms Creative expands on down the line, I hope to do puppets and wall decorations etc.
By working & exploring the medium of clay, I have gained a wonderful knowledge & relationship of what it is capable of...

A bowl of happiness!

Sunday at the Beach

Edward Hopper, the American artist, spent a lot of his life on the West Coast of the United States especially around Cape Cod. I get the image of Cape Cod with beautiful coast lines, expensive properties white sun hats, crisp linen pants, grassy dunes & white wine Spritzer’s. This beach is inspiring.

However I grew up in Nth QLD and had family holidays at Kurramine beach. I have very lovely memories of playing card games with Nana, drag netting for bait with Pop and my Mum.
I remember the smell of the canvas awning outside the caravan and how your skin feels after spending the day swimming in the ocean with your little sister.

This piece comes from the “Ocean Range”, it’s called “Sunsets in the West” and reminds me of my times spent in Perth, where the sun actually sets over the ocean.
(Something quite odd for those of us living on the West Coast) The piece is made of Shell and Glass and is finished with a chain and large parrot clasp.

$45.00 (o-nec-015)
